Ponderosa Drama Department

Ponderosa offers three different levels of drama classes: beginning, intermediate, and advanced drama.

Students will explore the fundamentals of acting, and learn how to create dynamic characters through script analysis. Students will also get the opportunity to explore the technical side of theatre and theatre-related careers. Each class offers a unique way of learning how to perform in front of an audience!

Ponderosa puts on two Main Stage productions a year: a fall play and a spring musical. Each show requires students to audition and rehearsals occur after school.

Ponderosa also offers the chance to perform publicly through our classes as well. We put on several smaller productions per year including dinner theatre, one-acts, and a variety show. See class descriptions for more details.

Festivals & Trips

Each year Ponderosa Drama participates in the Lenaea Festival, a three day theatre festival and competition. Students get the opportunity to prepare performance pieces to compete with other high schools for recognition / trophies and scholarships.

Each year the Intermediate and Advanced Drama classes get the opportunity to attend the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, home to some of the finest theatre in the world! We stay in the dorms at SOU, and see professional plays in the beautiful city of Ashland.
